The Making of ‘Angry Quiz Guy’
WRITTEN By Amy Clarke
I first met director Ben S Hyland at the Basingstoke based Exit6 Film Festival in 2019 when Michael Beddoes and I were there screening our drag queen LGBTQ+ short, Sequins, and he was screening his hilarious comedy short, Quiet Carriage.
Exit6 is a film festival that promotes a really positive networking space for filmmakers. We hit it off with Ben and have been discussing working on a project together ever since.
So, when he called Mike up during lockdown and said; “I’ve had an idea for a Zoom comedy and I’d like you to produce it and write on it”, Mike admits he was a little dubious.
“Ben came to me with an idea saying he thought it had potential for a lockdown mini sitcom after I’d already told him I wasn’t interested in doing anything on Zoom or similar as I felt it had been done. But when he explained it, the concept grabbed me, and I ate my humble pie.”
Firmly sold on the concept, Mike and Ben approached me to ask if I wanted to contribute a couple of episodes to the show, which, perfecting sourdough bread aside, sounded like the ideal way to spend my time in lockdown.
