A short film by Lee Campbell
“Mugged: Revenge served Cold” is a dark experimental neo surrealist short film interlaced with abstract art culminating in a visionary horror experience.
The sound and eerie, slowed-down voice of the killer together with the visuals create a distorted collage and a feeling of intense claustrophobia.
We enter into the mind of the obsessive killer, the constant repetition of the words “I only have eyes for you” together with the close up of his eyes is extremely uncomfortable to experience and disturbing to us the viewer. I could not help but feel I was trapped inside the mind of a character from a David Lynch movie!
I appreciated the use of layerings of sound and visual imaging and various recordings Campbell made using a Sony Ericsson Cybershoot K800i mobile phone (2005-2006), poster art (a spray Painted London Evening Standard poster in 2006), various pencil drawings and felt tip drawings (2010-2021), as well as moving image footage, was taken on an iPhone (2018-2021)
