How Actor/ Filmmaker KAZY TAUGINAS Is Raising Lupus Awareness
From skating, boxing, and running restaurants, to sharing the screen with Giants like Denzel Washington & Eddie Murphy, our October cover star KAZY TAUGINAS did it all, and he did it his way. But his biggest mission is to bring as much awareness as he possibly can around Lupus, a disease his mom has been fighting with his entire life.
We asked Kazy if he would like to share his journey with us, and here we are.
Where do I start? I suppose at the beginning? I grew up in Oak Park, Illinois, about twenty minutes from Downtown, Chicago. My father was a high school teacher and my mother spent her days surviving Lupus (an autoimmune disease where your immune system attacks healthy tissues and organs). I really never understood the unique environment I grew up in until I got much older. I feel really blessed to have grown up in Oak Park. I had an incredibly diverse group of friends. When I look back at pictures of my crew from high school I joke that we looked like the UN.
