Sweet love, renew thy force!
Hey! Don’t say shit like that to me. People can hear you.
Look, you embarrassed the girl. Sacrifice yourself on the altar of dignity and even the score.
– 10 Things I Hate About You, 1999
What follows next can only be described as THE most iconic apology scene in cinematic history – Heath Ledger, hijacking the school’s sound system, band, and girls’ soccer practice, to shamelessly dance up and down the bleachers whilst singing Frankie Valli’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” for the entire stadium to see and hear.
This scene is so real and unrehearsed as Ledger’s brooding badass character Patrick Verona publicly displays his vulnerability for the first time in order to reveal, embarrass, and sacrifice himself on the altar of dignity to even the score with Kat Stratford (Julia Stiles) and prove his love for her.
