Alive is a beautiful and moving Short Film Directed by Jimmy Olsson.
I have been lucky enough to see this Short Film before it’s released to the public thanks to Jimmy Olsson. Going into this I was a little indecisive about a foreign language film. As an English speaker, I am sometimes not a fan of subtitle Films or even TV Shows.
But that has a lot to do with how fast the movie is. Although that being said, I was pleasantly surprised. Along with a beautiful subject that touched on what does happen to people with a disability, that have none that they are romantically involved with. The film moved at a pace that you could feel the emotion of the film.
My gran in her last years suffered a severe stroke that resulted in her being not able to move properly and having to teach her to talk again. It gave me a little insight into what she would have gone through and I believe that it can for you as well, if and when you have a family member or even friend going through a sort of the same situation.
I do love the interaction between Ida (Madeleine Martin) and Victoria (Eva Johansson), and how their conversations are funny, witty and yes, a bit personal which you would expect from a Carer and Patient who are in each other’s lives on a daily Bases. The story develops when Victoria meets Ida’s Boyfriend and Victoria feels she wants and needs that same kind of companionship. Which results in Ida helping her find a date on one of the popular dating apps. And of course, when she gets a date, Ida feels she needs to protect her. As I feel all carers feel for the people that are in their charge.
For me, this is a short that has stayed with me and I question the if I would be the same way either in Victoria’s or Ida’s position.
So, I recommend you check this Short Film out when it is released and see for yourself how moving and heart-warming it is.
